Baby, It's Cold Outside
But I vowed to make the most of it, so that's what I'm doing.
Bonus: My sister came to visit for a few days, and she likes to go sledding with many young children.
Cory and I enjoyed a free hour at the coffee shop while the kids were at their church program. I found a couple of new recipes I'm going to try. A group of hooligans stumbled in and one of them dropped his meth pipe...cops arrived...handcuffs were brandished...a picture was knocked off the wall in a scuffle...you know, a regular night in Amish country.
I saw the dreamiest sky a few days back. Greyish purple with a broad stripe of Sea blue, all of which was bathed in pinkish, goldy, glimmery light.
I think there's a meaningful analogy hidden in that sky for us Winter weary souls...
...but I'm wrapped burrito-style in my blue fleece blanket and I just ate half a pink grapefruit and watched 30 Rock with Cute Maintenance Boy and I just don't care to dig that deep.

ReplyDeleteXOXO
Joni
what a coffee shop experience. holy cow.
ReplyDeleteand what a beautiful sky. oh how fun it would be to look out and see snow. i can't even imagine :O)
Beautiful photos! Thanks..lulu
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not the only one who spends Wednesday church nights out with my hubby at the coffee house. That's exactly what we did last night too, but without all of the drug bust excitement. Dang! I guess we picked the wrong spot.
ReplyDeleteLove that tiny red spot of a barn on the beautiful Shannan-blue horizon. It's saying to you, "Shannan, use a little more red!"
Holy toledo. Coffee shops in farm towns are hopping with crackheads? Wow. Ya learn something new every day. :)
ReplyDeleteOne more blessing of winter - the amazing LIGHT!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love pinkish, goldy, glimmering light. Your winter photos are beautiful...especially the tree/barn. Love it.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pics! Have a sweet day!
ReplyDeleteMore barn picts in the snow, Please! :)
ReplyDeleteI have snow envy, please dont' shoot me dirty looks through the computer...
it's January 15 & I think I'm back in the 'land of perpetual summer'. The boys asked if they could get the pool out yesterday. Sigh. I love snow, I know its not what folks with normal weather want to hear, but every year we are in the deep south, my soul shrinks from missing 'that season'. the bugs in my soul remain because the cold doesn't get to them. Got to have seasons!
Thanks for posting, ...
I am also trying to make the most of winter. Your beautiful pictures help! I think an hour out with my husband would help pass the time too. Now I just need to find a coffee shop as exciting as yours!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you are going to try to figure out their white chili b/c i think it is sooo wonderful! I think I could eat it everyday and that's no joke.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't think winter has been all that bad -I normally kinda like it, I always dream of moving to a land with palm trees (like Florida ;)). Glad you are enjoying the cold.
I'm cracking up! A meth pipe incident would so happen down in my neck of the country woods too! I think you and I are on the same wave length today - my post has the same title!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of Amish country are so beautiful. So still and peaceful. You know, except for the strung out thugs. I guess you're not safe anywhere anymore!
ReplyDeleteUp before the kids, sipping coffee, blogging...it's going to be a great day!
ReplyDeleteI forgot my grocery list, I was winging it at the store, must go back, forgot ingredients for the "world's greatest sandwich...ever" Poo. It will be MINE.
Love on some winter this weekend, sip more hot cocoa, wear more fleece. Things that just feel silly when it's 90 degrees out! Ahhh winter.
Wow now that's some excitement for the local coffee shop. Where was your camera?? I would have been snaping like crazy. I'm weird like that:) Love those cozy pillows at the end. Have a great weekend Shannan.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics! Wow what an interesting time at the coffee shop!
ReplyDeleteare you kidding about the meth pipe thing? dang.
ReplyDeleteoh, and your husband is such a good sport.
Lovely pics, the snow looks wonderfully fun! Glad you got some quiet time with your man so to speak! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeletedang. and i'm complaining about winter in Texas. what is wrong with me???? sorry to do yall like that. it's raining and cold on our farm today.....but not that cold. geeeeez. you guys are my hero for enduring:)
ReplyDeleteWhen is this world gonna clean up!!! Meth heads invaided our wonderful tiny little town too... so frustrating! I remember when I was little I could play outside after dark & not worry about a thing, not lock doors etc... NEVER in a million years would I not lock my doors now. Love your pics - especially that yummy looking hot cocoa.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love it when my sisters play outside with my kiddos too... a little quiet time just watching them is always so nice : )
Your photos are especially cozy today! I love sledding, in fact, as soon as I click 'post comment' that's where I'm heading. I KNOW! Out three days this week, I don't like it ONE bit I tell you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you coping with winter, I personally love it, but then again, I haven't had any crackhead run-ins. Be careful out among the English Shannan.
where in amish country did you encounter that much excitement?
ReplyDeletei grew up in Berne...and we didn't have a coffee shop, let alone that kind of drama!
but boy did we have Amish! every business in town proudly displays horse hook-up fence thingys (???) hitching posts! that's the term!
seriously--where did you get that great looking drink?
we skip wed. mid-week also--just for 90 minutes alone
I agree, serious barn envy happening here too. That drink looks so delicious, I'm going to have to make myself a hot chocolate right now, minus the whip cream I don't have, darn!
ReplyDeleteWOW - that coffee shop scandal...now that's something to blog about. Glad you got a little relaxing time before the "bust".
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful. I have to look to the north to see if the sky is clear enough to see any snow on the mountain top.
love your blog girl!! my bff chinny and poom has talked about you for months and now i can see why. your posts are relatable and make me smile :) and i discovered ruche. thanks!!
ReplyDeletesounds cozy and fun, except for the meth pipe action.
