This is like a real J. Crew store, but with sales. Lots of sales.
It even has a Crewcuts, but I don't dare venture back there.
Or, I do venture back there, but I don't touch anything.
Or maybe I do venture back and touch things, but I don't ever, ever buy anything, because what little girl needs a J. Crew habit? And honestly? Kids get dirty. And their clothes should not cost more than their Mama's. And they really don't even care. And some little-big boys will only wear shirts made of mesh with a number plastered on the back.
Or maybe, maybe I buy one little Crewcuts shirt, but only because it's on sale for $5 and it says "Ruby's Crab Shack" on the front.
But only then do I buy. Only then.
Only then. Only then... even if it's the cutest little girl stuff on this side of anywhere...Only then...I have found that it helps to repeat this mantra ad nauseaum...Only then.
Even if it's 97 degrees in the shade and you let your hair air-dry {again} and you're wearing the skirt with the hole in the back that you safety-pinned closed because you are afraid to sew, and there are people around, you will still do this.
Because you have lost your ever-loving mind.
Addendum:
What will $50 get you at the J. Crew outlet? Well, I'll give you a hint. It fits in a bag roughly the size of my abnormally large hand. In this case, it happens to be a purple silk, ruffly top that may or may not inspire a confused look by one's husband; and a men's heather grey sweatshirt, that is already destined for a star on the FPFG walk of fame, come Winter.
Addendum 2:
I guest posted here today. Have a look see.

"Here's what blogging will do to you...".... wow... I agree and am guilty, If I didn't take pictures I feel like it doesn't deserve a post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh :)
I tried to post on your friends blog and to follow her and it won't let me.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, you are so funny. Love that little bag with the big purchase, hah. I also love your skirt.
I was to meet a blogger on Friday and she backed out. I so wanted to meet her.
You certainly have a way with words. ((((HUGS))))
I would have to be on Xanex if my Mr. had a camera habit. I would stress that people saw my love for crazy hairdos. My pj pants with T's that do not match. It is all good at home. No one sees me so it is okay that never match. My Mr. has commented, often, about my lack of class behind our closed doors. Love you and the Crew (yours and the J. included)
ReplyDeleteI have abnormally large hands too! Yay! You're very brave to allow them to be photographed -- I've mastered hiding them when the camera comes out...it's a reflex now I've done it so much.
ReplyDeleteI just got the crewcuts catalog. lovingly looked through it and then right in the recycling bin.
ReplyDeleteand, by the way, I love your skirt. It looks so good on you I don't believe that it has a safety pin in it at all!
you are funny!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a jcrew, I don't think I've seen any around Baltimore. Have a great Thursday
oh you are a seriously funny gal! i love your posts!
ReplyDeleteSo wait-there was no "Ruby's Crab Shack" shirt in that little bag??? Dang! By the way, I am patiently waiting for some sort of Mad Men premiere review from you.....or at least a witty remark about it thrown in somewhere-just so I know you watched it :)
ReplyDeleteI so get the "blogging thing"!! Son-in-law was rolling his eyes at me as I photographed his sandwich the other night( it looked the best) to go with the recipe I posted. Then I realized I didn't have my camera cord and couldn't use it anyway after all that... Yep we are a weird bunch in this blogging world. But isn't it fun!!
ReplyDeleteThe last time I was at a JCrew was in 1995 in Silverthorne, CO and I bought a bathingsuit for my honeymoon! They um...don't have my size anymore ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of the Crew.
ReplyDeleteI need skinnier legs.
On that note, I WAS going to hate you for looking so cute and such, and then you added the safety pin into the mix, and I felt a sisterhood again.
whew. that was close.
I still think of you when I want to photograph something or someone, and then I don't because I guess I'm not 100% committed or something. I think of when you photographed random Korean men and you are my hero.
Great. The sisterhood is gone again. You and your amazing talents! Cuteness and amazing bravery. Geesh.
hahaha laughing at "what blogging will do to you" love that!!!
ReplyDeleteWhew...I'm not the only one who lets my hair air dry. It really is one of my most favorite things to do on a hot day. Roll the windows down (cause the AC is broke) and drive around in the country like a hound dog hanging her head out the window.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Heather
J Crew is so very a novelty "special" store. I can't abide buying a pair of socks for $32. But a crewshirt for only $5? That's meant to be.
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
ReplyDeleteCrewcuts is evil. Evil, I tell you. And, JCrew is too for that matter. I have been stalking their online sale with 5 things in my "basket" for quite a few days...I never click on crewcuts though. I think my husband said that would be grounds for divorce. I can't wait to see your purply ruffly thing... maybe it is the same as the brown ruffly thing in my shopping cart. Online sale ends today.... will I buy or not?
ReplyDeleteThat's the same outlet my mama and I went to spend my b-day money! I didn't get anything at J. Crew, but did contemplate a 14 dollar head band for Meg. I decided against it since she never keeps anything in her hair for more than 5 seconds anyway!
ReplyDeleteSo, two years ago I bought four swimsuits from the Crew - it was free shipping and I bought four to see what worked best and would return the rest. Sounds good, right? Unless you forget to return four swimsuits before the date when you will only get store credit, not a refund. So, for the last two years, I've had Crew Credit that I keep forgetting about! Thanks for reminding me to go shopping, Farmgirl.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I love that he takes pictures of you outside of stores! This post made my day start with a smile!
ReplyDeleteLove you, my saftey pinned...big handed friend!! I'm insane that way too...personal paparazzi:) Glad you got your fix;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Can't wait to see your purchases!
ReplyDeleteThis craftie girl would just love to have the little white handled bag, with the J.Crew signature on it!
ReplyDeleteXO
You look adorable!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I find myself getting my personal papparazzo taking all sorts of strange and wonderful photos for my blog. He LOVES me so much, cause he always complies with my requests :)
ReplyDeleteI live in NKY so I know all the great bargain hunting in the Cincy area. Next time you're in the neighborhood you should definitely check out the Gap Clearance center. It's in Hebron, KY (out by the Cincinnati airport) but totally worth the trip. It a real dig but you can really find some treasures for yourself and the kids.
ReplyDeletei also do not shop at crewcuts for the same reasons (my daughters do not need to inherit that habit, they really do get dirty...etc.)...BUT, i DO shop online (there) when i get a 30% coupon (including SALES!) and FREE S/H! not only do i shop, but i do a lil "yeah me" dance. but not in front of anyone...
ReplyDeletebloggin' will make you do some crazy things won't it!? LIke drive and meet strangers, and take pictures in restaurants and the dentist. Love it though! Fun to live like this! Thanks so much for guest blogging for me Shanny - I loved it.
ReplyDeleteOh you crack me up! It's amazing how often I say, "hold that pose, I need a picture of this for my blog" and how in general my blog ranks as one of the top things I think about.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to sew too, I even took a class in HS for a full year, but it just proved that, that is not who I am :)
I bet there was at least one fellow blogger around who knew what you were doing! :)
ReplyDeleteThis blogging is kind of contagious. I've started to carry my camera everywhere, but I TAKE the pictures... I'm not IN them :)
ReplyDeletePS.. so did you actually get the "Ruby shirt"?? Would love to see that on a certain someone...
Yes! The J. Crew outlet in my hometown is my favorite store too. And I have a gift card from my birthday that's burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe it's time for a shopping trip?
ReplyDeleteHey You! Enjoyed your beach post AND the one about the J Crew outlet!! Don't forget I'm waitin' on that e-mail. xo
ReplyDeletei live south of dayton, just 20 min or so from those outlets and it's dangerous! and i second the comment about the gap clearance center. totally worth the trip to dig!
ReplyDeleteI have been hankering for Michigan City lately. I might just steal away solo to get away this weekend.
ReplyDeletelove love jcrew. keep me away from crewcuts..the kids do have a few pieces...i admit...
ReplyDeleteit was my obsession in college. i lived with 3 boys who pretty much nixed the word in the house!!
i need a trip to that store or let's just open another internet window!!! don't tell hubs!
My large hands never ever fit in womens gardening gloves... ;) I never fit in JCrew... my arms are too short and chubby! ;)
ReplyDeletewhere is this j crew outlet that you speak of?!
ReplyDeleteSo. You wore a skirt with a hole in the back that you safety-pinned closed because you are afraid to sew, (and allowed yourself to be photgraphed in it) and then confessed it to the world on your blog?
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero ; )
(but you still looked super-cute)
