I found this picture in the archives today and it made me think of a few things.
1) I miss La Fiesta.
2) If ever there was an Amiga of La Fiesta, it would be me.
3) Cory did not enjoy my outfit that day.
I can count the times that Cory disliked what I wore on one hand. He's easy to please. His hard-lined opinions don't typically extend to fashion. But I clearly remember him giving me a look on this day. His look said, "Say whaaaaat?" Or something like that.
What you might not be able to see is that my shorts were navy and white pinstripes.
Seersucker.
Because I'm a sucker for seersucker.
(Don't even get me started on springtime in DC. Seersucker suits with polka-dotted bow ties! Have mercy.)
I have this....this....problem. I really enjoy throwing oddball things together on the off-chance that I might be on to something. You should try it.
She sure has.
Do you hear that? It's my heart, swelling with stripey, flowery, clashy pride.

i love the outfits! i do the same thing with my clothes and my kids' clothes! so fun!
ReplyDelete...and, side note, my husband just told me (in sweet, kind words) yesterday that my light pink skirt is not cute and makes me look pale :)
she's got style. I mean I really think she's onto something! And now I want mexican food.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'm still thinking about yesterday's post.
Dear Jesus,
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please make me as creative and fun with my clothes as Flower Patch Farm Girl. Over and Out.
Looks like her mama has taught her well. I wish I had the fashion guts to throw some things together like that.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing other people's kids in their clashy Punky Brewster-esque clothes but when my own kids try to pull it off I cringe. I abhor my own double standard! Anywho...when I was in elementary school we didn't have much money and there was another little girl in my class who had EVERYTHING she wanted and the cutest outfits ever (in my first grade mind.) In a fit of jealousy I remember telling her that her clothes clashed right before we went on stage for the BIG Christmas show. We have a photo of her bawling...and me 5 steps away grinning like a cheshire cat because I "won." And yes, I got in big trouble. I was a "mean girl." Tsk tsk.
ReplyDeleteSa-weet! (Yours and hers.)
ReplyDeleteI'm not brave enough to do that. Wish I were.
We have a La Fiesta in our town. It's a popular spot.
Oh she is just PERFECT!
ReplyDeletelaughing out loud the whole way through! You are just all a hoot. We need to get together. P.S. threw my seersucker blazer in the Goodwill bag w/ sadness this summer. Maybe I should go dig it out.
ReplyDeleteFun post! Of course, girlfriend's outfit was THE best! I love that she's got fashion confidence. Now,the chunky reader in me kept staring at your sexy legs thinking...really! I mean with legs like those, any kind of short could be pulled off...inlcuding seersucker! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Val
You make me laugh out loud- really! I love Ruby's outfit, cute as a button! ~Maria
ReplyDeleteI love those socks Ruby! lol
ReplyDeleteGood for you and Ruby! I think it's brilliant, not to mention *way* more fun than the usual way of dressing.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I was brave enough to try something on the off-chance it would be amazing. My clothing choices tend to be dull and predictable. I'm hoping to work toward changing that a bit this fall.
ReplyDeleteSeersucker and bow ties? You are a girl after my own heart. I have of late, been begging my mister to start wearing bow ties. I'm hoping he will soon agree as I'm sure it will benefit him.
ReplyDeleteI love Ruby's style. I think I need me some rugby striped socks!
ReplyDeleteI encourage my tween and teen to think outside the "mall" for their fashion sense. Maybe Ruby could do a little fashion consult?
You are a lady after my own heart! Let's hear it for plaids, stripes and checks. Worn all at once! Love it! Kit
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog. You're such a breath of fresh flowerpatch air.
ReplyDeleteYou are totally on to something.
Like mother, like daughter!
ReplyDeleteLike they say as we age we come into our own! And I love it! I use to look at (old) moms & think....I'll never dress like that! I'm gonna say 'cute' & 'in'! Ha! Now we're 'in' in our own version of 'in!' ;)
Rebecca
PS ~ it's ALREADY HOT out (here) & I have the day off! Here's to the last dog days of summer!!!
love that you pick out random things and see if you're onto something....
ReplyDeletelove that ruby does too.
Well, I totally agree with your fashion sense! If you like, own it and then WEAR it! Especially seersucker, if I could get married to Eric again, he would be wearing a seersucker suit and I would be in a sundress, both obviously being purchased from your fav and mine, JCREW! FYI, they totally dress the kiddos like that in the catalog and Ruby's got it goin' on :-)
ReplyDelete-fashioniconwannabe :-) aka heather
I so love Ruby's outfit!
ReplyDeleteThose socks...I dreamed of being allowed to wear striped socks like that as a little girl with any and all outfits! Sadly, my mom always "got in the way" of that dream! Please show her Dorrie from the Dorrie the Witch books by Patricia Coombs. They dress alike. I wanted to BE Dorrie.
Brad wore a seersucker button down to our lunch date the other day. Sigh. 'Twas lovely.
For a second, I could have sworn that those shorts were...gasp..lavender!
I love your style. And your girl is clearly making you proud!
"her hat is always crooked and her socks never match." that was what got me as a child:

i love me some mismatched munchkin.
ReplyDeleteRuby can totally pull off any look. (So can her mother.)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Deb above.
ReplyDeleteAlso with the comment about the Punky
Brewster look. That show only lasted one season but was never forgotten. I have a granddaughter that is so that style. She is hilarious.
What a cutie! She's got style!
ReplyDeletethe apple certainly does not fall far from the tree. no siree.
ReplyDeletep.s. i heart your outfit.
p.p.s. are you on pinterest?
I love when things clash! Perfection!
ReplyDeleteI actually wore a Hello Kitty T-shirt and a skirt together the other day because of your fashion inspiration. I felt all FPFG all the live long day and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteSHE is adorable and so are you!
ReplyDeletexo, Cheryl
I'm sort of new to your blog...a month or so now. I just wanted to tell you that I enjoy your writings, thoughts, observations SO much. I would tell you every day but there are always so many comments by the time I get here (I'm in Los Angeles) that I figure you will probably never see it. But today's post is quite special and so here I am telling you how much I enjoy you! Enough gushing....have a great and blessed day (and please don't stop ever writing...you have a gift) :)
ReplyDeleteKeeks is sitting in my lap and when we got to the pic of Rubes at the end she started waving at the screen and saying "haaayyyy."
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite problem with my husband . . . I could count on one hand the amount of times he's liked what I wear! Not that I pay any attention!
ReplyDeleteWay to cute!! That Ruby of yours:) My Adrian dresses that way. Love it Elma elma2179@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteis there any other way?? i get a secret thrill when i can tell someone thinks my outfit is a little odd/quirky. somewhere in my twisted mind the has become the actual benchmark that i AM on to something. it's a sickness. ;)
ReplyDeleteRuby is a sure fashion plate, always!! And I love that she is so confident about her style.
ReplyDeleteCory has never secretly not liked any of my outfits has he?? After all what is there not to like about sweats??
Ruby cracks me up! So glad you share all the photos you do.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I kinda like your outfit. The shorts and that belt are 'swoony' if I may say. My husband dosn't really like about 1/2 the outfits I put together but he knows they make me happy and just says "that's very you". So diplomatic. There's a blog I recently found called The Man Repeller and it's based on the idea that women dress to be 'fashionable' not necessarily to be attractive and that most men don't 'get' fashion. It's quite funny.
seersucker can't be resisted, i tell you.
ReplyDeleteand it looks like ruby is on to something. and it's awesome.
two cutie peas in a pod, y'all are! xoxo
That girl has swagger! ;)
ReplyDelete#1- Steve's ice cream.... Incredible.
ReplyDelete#2- I have seer sucker pants... And I LOVE them. You both got style and it rocks!
