"God will do what He's going to do and I just need to be willing to journey through it." - Lisa Leonard
Maybe the largest part of the Going struggle is relinquishing control. We've heard all of the analogies and cliches, we've belted it out with Carrie, "Jesus take the wheeeeeeeeeeel!"
Sometimes we mean it.
But most of the time it's just hard to do. We trust His plan, in theory, but we can't see it. We're left here with schedules and bills and kids who won't nap. There's spaghetti to boil and peppers to chop. The laundry won't walk itself upstairs.
So sometimes, we derail an adventure and settle for life. We don't say we won't go. We wouldn't dare. We just say we're busy. We're already underwater. There's simply no room.
And all the while, He wants nothing but our willingness.
We say it's His foot on the gas, but we'd rather not talk about ours jamming the brake.
The good news is, He'll do what He needs to do... no matter what. He laughs at the brakes.
The bad news is, He'll do what He needs to do... even if it means doing it without us.

Amen to the dang laundry.
ReplyDeleteAlso, yes He will.

Day 3 of Giving: I have God 1.25 hrs of my time that I wanted to keep to myself and asked God to forgive me for thinking that and in the end, I was totally blessed by my decision.
Day 4 of Giving: Gave my sis a call (which is huge, I hate talking on the phone)
Girl, I LOVE this. (I did something similar last Christmas for Advent!)
DeleteThanks for sharing this here, H! I truly love reading your 31 Days. :)

This makes me think of the book of Esther when Mordecai comes to talk to Esther about petitioning the king. You likely know it - the king hasn't called for her in months (I think it says 6 months). At the time, approaching the king without being called was a big "no no", and if I remember correctly - punishable by death (depending on his mood). Of course, she voices her reluctance, but Mordecai says, "If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews WILL arise from some other place" (Esther 4:14)
ReplyDeleteGod's will WILL be done. Do we want to be a part of that and hear him say, "Well done", or does he have to call up someone else?
Thank you for the precious reminder! One I have to call upon daily!
Beautiful! Living in the "yes" of God. Help me do it, Lord.
ReplyDeleteI like this post a lot.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely - very well said!

Painfully true- and painfully glorious!
ReplyDeleteEnter the struggle I am in. I don't know how I can think two things at once. I suppose its like my ten year old believing in Santa even though somewhere she knows better.
ReplyDeleteHelp me reconcile these thoughts:
A) God laughs at breaks. He will go through us. I believe this. I have seen it.
B) God will choose someone else when we refuse to let up on the breaks. I believe this. I have seen it.
Can they both be true? Does he choose when to apply each theory? What about when we are standing on our toes, screaming until we are hoarse the answer YES, but our husband is double footing the break pedal? I know what God has said to me. I KNOW it. But I can't help but feel like we are going to miss out on this amazing thing God is asking us to be a part of. Then I think, it's not only my free will to say yes to. It's my husbands free will to say no.
Why isn't God laughing at our breaks? Is this more like missing out and less like busting through? Meanwhile. My heart hurts. Then the doubt. Then the panic. I am going to find a mountain and commence the screaming. All advice welcomed.
Side note. It hurts how many times I spelled brakes incorrectly. I am a teacher at home with cooties. I blame this
DeleteSo true! And oh the blessings we miss when He does His work without us.
ReplyDeleteHe so wants my willingness. And to do that I must trust completely. And to trust completely I must surrender over and over again. "Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done." C.S. Lewis
ReplyDeleteLove your 31 day posts!
